Two hundred and ninety drivers used Operation Red Nose to get home safely this holiday season. The designated driver service was made possible by 235 volunteers from the four North Shore Rotary Clubs and from the community at large. These volunteers were critical to the success of the program; many volunteered on several nights. More than 6,500 kilometers were covered and over $16,000 cash was raised in donations and sponsorships. The money will be used by the Rotary Clubs to support youth programs on the North Shore. Compared to the past two years, the number of rides, and subsequent donations, decreased due to poor weather conditions. The number of volunteers, however, increased. Volunteers came out on their own or as teams of family members, friends, organizations, and work colleagues. We would especially like to thank the teams from these organizations: • North Shore Outdoor School Alumni Association • Hollyburn Rotaract Club • Soroptomists • Seymour Lions Club • Lions Gate Hospital Foundation • Salvation Army • North Vancouver Community Policing • District of North Vancouver Partners and Sponsors Although the service is co-ordinated by the North Shore Rotary Clubs, this service is only possible with the support provided by Rotary and community volunteers as well as the provincial hosts and community partners and sponsors. Provincial Host and Sponsors: • BC Crime Prevention Association. • ICBC. • CTV. North Shore Partners and Sponsors: • ICBC provides their Claim Centre as the dispatch hub. • Cell City Communications provides the cell phones. • The RCMP does all the driver and criminal record checking. • Capilano Audi/Volkswagen donates some escort cars. • The North Shore News publishes newspaper ads. • The financial sponsors included:
